Why did he keep his blindfold on?

I don't recall him being ordered to do so. But he kept it on most of the time even though his hands were free to remove it.

It's implied multiple times that he is ordered to keep the blindfold on.

At the time he's not forced to wear it, I would imagine he uses it to block out his situation.
