Question about French view of teen sex

So, I've now seen two movies where teens are having sex in the family home, and in the nearby room the family is hanging out, eating brunch or whatever. The family knows the teens are having sex just in the other room and are not bothered. The teens know (and don't care) that the family is aware of what's going on right at the moment.

Is this how it really is in France? I'm sure that, out of the hundreds of millions of households in America, there are a few like this, but it isn't usual. Even in families where everyone is fine that the teens are having sex, the parents would be uncomfortable to know that their kid was having sex at that moment in the next room, and the kid would probably be very embarrassed.

I'm hoping French adults with teen children answer that for you.
I would love to know their view of this.

I don't think it is a French thing or an American thing. My wife's parents didn't seem to mind me at 21 sleeping with their 18 year old daughter in their house.

But were her parents ever in the next room while you were having sex, and right before or after you hung out with them? That's what puzzles me, not that the parents didn't mind that their daughter was having sex, but that they didn't mind that they were showing no discretion about it.

I have read a few recent articles discussing the French view on sex and they do seem very open to these kind of things.

So I would not be surprised if this was considered norm.

The teenage sex behind closed doors was probably not that big a deal and more a universal phenomena. A house-guest sitting at the breakfast table reeking of sweat, semen and vaginal secretions after boinking your 17 year old daughter is definitely a French custom.

I don't think you have to go to France to find teens having sex under their parent's noses. "Family home" is a very peculiar phrase to use, considering this "home" is technically their house.

My apologies for using imperfect phrasing on an imdb post. I'm very sure this doesn't happen just in France, but I've seen 2 French movies now where the teens aren't being discreet about having sex right by where the family is hanging out. I'm wondering it it's a normal attitude in France to be okay with this lack of discretion.

Hi! I am French and I am 19, and I would like to reassure you: it's not as spread as it seems. I guess it is certainly more than in the US but it must represent (it's a qualitative approximation of my humble point of view) less than a seventh of the families. In mine it is so, I could sleep with a girl in the room next to my parents or grand parents without having any problem of any sort. But it is CLEARLY not a majority. Hope I will help someone to understand French culture ! ;) (even if it is no generality)

i guess it boils down to how open minded your parents are about sex and what type of relationship you have with them

I can say my parents didn't mind, even that time when I entertained two girls at once. I think the idea is that they'd rather have their children doing it at home than somewhere else.

I don't think we the French are the most open about sex though, compared to some northern countries I shall not name where you have parents that literally push their 15 years old girls into the arms of men for "experience", I've seen it happen several times while vacationing in mediterranean campings.
