A flip phone in 2013?

So this movie came out in 2013 and the main character has a flip phone? I know it's stupid but it just strikes me as odd. Are flip phones me common in France?

In my experience, flip phones are much more common in Europe and all points east. If all you want to do is talk/text they are actually a lot easier/faster for common tasks than a full 'smartphone'. Personally, I like them -way- better... smaller, more durable.

there's a line where she says she bought another phone when she decided to become a prostitute. apparently she bought a cheap flip phone for her secret texts.

As 'qme4good' states, she bought a 2nd phone.
In 1 scene, you see Isabelle put aside her 'main' smartphone, and pick up the cheap flip-phone she used for her call-girl work.
It makes sense, as she only needs to text. You actually don't see her even talk with it.
I know a woman who does this work, and she does the same.
