Am I too old for the ending?

I sense that the majority of IMDB followers are somewhat young (I could be wrong). I am a middle aged guy, and I hate these ambiguous series endings that seem to be more commonplace now. Does the younger audience likes the mental gymnastics of figuring out whether it was Jack or Drew at the end, or are there people like me who to want see a buttoned up ending, no matter what it is? Even though I really wanted Sara back with Drew, I would rather have seen her with Jack than have the unknown finish,

39 and wishing they had as you say "buttoned it up".

38 and concur with both of you although I did not want Sara with Jack. Imo that we would be going backwards for her. It was a mistake that she "took up" with him in the first place. This was one awkward affair that I've ever seen. Sara tells Jack she loves him on more than one occasion but he never reciprocates except in a text message...strange that he couldn't vocalize that like a man who feels that she makes him want to connect????? SMH. So that emotionally upsets Sara to where she's emptying all of her bodily fluids. The trio here, Drew, Sara and Jack do not remove their wedding rings. Sara is still in love with her husband but felt reborn when she met Jack-"I can see more clearly, I'm sleeping better." Drew even notices the change with her-"You seem good lately, happy."

Jack felt a spark that he's never felt before with Sara as he told her in the pilot over a glass of wine but he tells her he's known Elaine for twenty years, she gets his jokes, she knows everything about him and yes he loves her but not the way he did in the beginning. This was an infatuation affair between J/S, not an affair where respective spouses make the break and divorce but are rather just content on staying married and playing house with their lover??????

I respected Drew and Sara for the way they handled it for the sake of their child BUT I wanted to see more from Sara in the form of an apology. It was obvious she still loved Drew but not the in the same way when she married him and Drew still loved her. Elaine was the only one I saw who showed any emotion. She yelled, she cried and threw Jack out of the house with shame and embarrassment and his tail between his legs then told him this was not his house anymore when he came back for the birthday party.

Now Elaine in less than a month, if the episodes chronicle the time line from episode #1 to #13, sleeps with and starts a relationship with a restaurant vendor AND exposes her kid(s) to it?????? Elaine and Jack totally missed what was going on with their son and imo they failed him miserably with their selfish decisions.

I believe the dialogue and how the scenes played out in the finale supported Sara and Drew staying together.

I will most likely get kicked off the IMDB for this and catch all kinds of slack for it, but I am gonna say it anyway.

How 'bout just a regular ole threesome, I mean if the woman can't decide then she is too greedy for just one or the other. I really did not see all that much conflict between Jack and Drew that could not have been overcome with enough wine and friendly adult chit chat for a while.

You know the more I think bout the ending, the more I I think the writers may not have wanted to create a war between D/S fans and J/S fans via social media outlets. It got pretty intense there after Drew and Sara slept together. Jack fans went buck on Drew and some even turned on Sara who they worship...WHY?

Ever hear what Leno said about the end of The Sopranos?
"The writers said they wanted to leave it up to our imaginations. If I wanted to use my imagination, I wouldn't be watching TV."

You know it may be a blessing in disguise that Betrayal was only 13 episodes. Can we imagine if the show did better in the ratings and made it to a season 2?

Drew/Sara fans vs. Jack/Sara fans

It was actually a third person. Sara is a serial cheater and when things didn't get back on with Jack, she moved on to someone else.

reply

How can you classify Sara as a serial cheater? She cheated once and with one person? Lst time I knew serial meant occuring many times. If it's someone other than Drew or Jack how is that cheating if she's divorced and not with Jack?

reply

YES!!! that was absolutely my take as well.

I'm 23 and I hate those endings as well.

I don't believe it has anything at all to do with the audience's age. This ending was written as a season-ending cliffhanger, to be resolved/revealed in Season 2. Unfortunately for the producers, the show got canceled after Season 1 was already in the can and this episode became the show's finale instead.
