This has got to be one of the words movies I've ever seen. The acting, the dialog, the directing looks like a 1960s high school play. They must have had everyone involved with the movie vote 10 to get a 6.4 because every critic I've seen panned it (rotten tomatoes gave it a 9 out of 100)

shareYou haven't seen many movies if this is one of the "words" [sic] movies you've ever seen. True, it had some awkward moments but it also had some effective character moments. Hemingway's works have always had a difficult transition to the screen but now it would seem that even his life also proves to be a tough adaptation.

shareHoward Hawks succeeded magnificently in his adaptation of TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT. Also, Tracy's THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA is very good.
Easily the most wrong-headed short-sighted review I've read on imdb, and I've read plenty of 'em.
