I was really hoping a shorter season would produce better writing....

...as usual my hopes have been dashed. The Liz side plot is moronic and they're attempting to lend credence to it by making her act completely out of character. More idiotic than usual.

I've never watched The Blacklist and I'm very surprised it's still on. After Spader's breezy turn in Boston Legal, and the fact that he's pretty well lost his looks (hey, it happens to guys, too), I figured The Blacklist would run a few seasons then run out of steam. Is this show any good?

reply

Really? I think Liz is acting like she always does. She vacillates between trusting Red and trying to ferret out his past. Right now she's in ferret mode, feigning affection for Red so she can get more information. I disliked Liz when she whined her way through a bunch of episodes, but lately she's become the get 'er done, full speed ahead woman of action. I like this version.

Everybody's out of character. And the storylines have become out right cartoonish. And wouldn't Red be murdered the minute he was exposed and kept in the prison system? The most powerful people on the planet want this guy dead. And the only thing missing from some of this dialog is a laugh track.

reply

At this point the only hope the show has is to kill off Liz and then let Red go full on Death Wish mode... at this point I should have stopped watching several seasons ago as I just kept hoping it would find itself again but it hasn't it just keeps going off into cartoon land.

guess the actress just can not pull it off, I keep wishing they had kept Tom and killed liz he is a much better actor but everyone has to earn acting wings tried to change her into a more action figure but she can not hold a candle to kinzie on ncis la or well anyone

Guess again. BUMP about the stolen plot.

PS Spader is the only reason I watch now. He could entertain me reading from a phone book.
If he ever leaves, I'm out.

It's all about him, his team and Aram. The rest can die. Perhaps a prequel spinoff?

Hmmmm....perhaps.

I've just finished Season 3 and have given up. I know, I know, I'm a late starter...

Season 1 was excellent, the second half of Season 2 was gripping, but Season 3 started going downhill after Liz discovered she was pregnant. IMHO, most of Season 3 went too much into soap opera territory, for my tastes, and the episodes without Liz were actually some of Season 3's best.

Red, Tom and Aram are my favourite characters. The rest I either dislike or am indifferent to. Unfortunately, so far, I've not come across much supporting evidence to persevere with this series.

The show definitely gets real rough, but really does get some of its groove back. I totally stopped watching for a while too back when those episodes were airing. They had to move some mountains of bullshit around, but status quo has finally been somewhat restored. Ya definitely gotta love Spader and have lots of patience to enjoy this show. The eventual payoffs are pretty good. I'm still on the fence with if this is actually good or not. That will depend on how it ends and the final answers to the mysteries.

Don't worry, once you're all caught up, you'll be thinking to yourself, "Liz has a kid? Oh, that's right!"

What a stupid story arc to write into this show. The showrunners deciding to incorporate Megan Boone's pregnancy into The Blacklist was a bad move.

reply

Agreed.

I watched the first episode of season four, and was constantly shaking my head and gasping at how ludicrous the script was. Needless to say, I haven't bothered watching any more episodes.

I don't care what anyone says but Megan Boone's pregnancy was a very selfish move. Obviously, she must have thought she had hit the jackpot, with starring in this series, and decided to cast aside her professionalism. It's not like she's playing a housewife in some soap opera...

I partially blame the show runners when an actress gets pregnant in a series. You can make a contract for anything, I don't understand why they don't create contracts for actresses that pay them a small amount to not get pregnant and if they do it requires the actress to pay them an ungodly amount. That would probably put an end to these women deciding to have kids in the middle of a show like this where it causes problems. It isn't like having kids is some mystery, sure there are rare instances today where it could happen from rape but otherwise it only happens when the woman decides on it.

In an ideal world, I'd agree. But the current feminist agenda wouldn't allow it.

HA!

They sure proved you wrong!
