Something puzzling about memories ..............

Liz had a memory of herself as a little girl at the Summer Palace with her mother. She wasn't a baby but a little girl at that time.

Before Red shot Kate, she told him how she had been trying to protect Liz. Red had put baby Liz in Kate's arms and asked her to protect her, and that's what Kate had always done.

If Liz was given as a BABY to Kate, how could Liz be a little girl at the summer palace with Katarina Rostova?

reply

maybe Kate meant, like presenting to her baby Liz when she was born and Red asking her to protect her.

reply

Sure, but then if baby Liz was presented to Kate, how did young girl Liz end up at the Summer Palace, which belonged to Rostov?

reply

like i already said...Kirk is crazy. IMO, he is making stuff up as he goes along. just because Katarina lived with them and was married to him, does not mean that they really had a happy life, like he thinks. i would still like to know Katarina's version. maybe thru her jurnals.

reply

Maybe we're going to find out that Mr. Kaplan used to work for Katerina, maybe to help her with the baby? Maybe after Masha was born, Red asked Kate to stay with mother and child as extra protection? Kate the nanny with a gun in her diaper bag!

Maybe Kirk never realized that the woman Katerina hired was a friend of Red's?

Just taking a wild guess.

reply

That makes sense.

reply

The housekeeper talked about her mother who took care of the Summer Palace before her. Could that have been Mr Kaplan? What do you think?

reply

I never thought of that, you may be right, rlhand.

Although that woman didn't look like Mr. Kaplan. But you know Liz looks nothing like her parents Katerina and Kirk (or Red for that matter).

reply

Maybe if Kate is Katerina, could she have had an accident or something and had to have her face reconstructed? In the episode just after Liz fake death, Red goes to that one place and is having memories of Katerina and when he kills people, she is concerned about cleaning up the scene ( and Kate is the "cleaner" who cleans up the crime scenes).

reply

Kate the nanny with a gun in her diaper bag!

The Mary Poppins of Death! I heard Mr. Kaplan called that years ago and it's always tickled me.

reply

it is possible that everything at the Summer Palace is staged. Even the placement of the buried coffee can. That could have been dug up and transferred from another location.

My theory is a long shot. But shows like this tend to present us one reality and then go to show us how that reality is not true and has been fabricated...intricately.

All this was going through my mind as I watched that scene and the bedroom scene. To what end the deception is for I dont know. I just know that so much of this show is all about "all is not what it seems".

reply

My first thought was that it was a implanted memory. I just instinctively didn't buy that scene for some reason.

reply

Kellykeybored .... I like that idea. Never thought of it like that. I was also wondering if Kate took care of Liz as a baby, how could she have memories of that house as a child? And was this the house that burned down? Or was the one that Red blew up the house where the fire was?

reply

I really don't know which house is which. I think this summer palace is one we haven't seen before (and it's where the picture of Katerina holding Liz on the swing was taken).

Red supposedly took Masha away from Katerina and went into hiding, so maybe the house we see in the fire flashbacks (when Katerina found them) is a hideaway somewhere else... and that's the one that burned down? (Then again, it may not have burned down, it may have been damaged and later restored.) There is that house in the woods where Red kept Naomi in season two.

And Kirk said that they only spent the summer there. Where did they spend winters?

And the house that Red blew up (to forget something bad that happened there) was in suburban Washington, in Maryland. So Maybe that's the place Red took Masha? Or he lived there with Katerina?

I don't know bthompso, I'm all confused, ha.

Too many houses!

Summer palace
house in the fire (hideaway)
house Red blew up
house in the woods where Naomi stayed

reply

You and me both Kellykeybored . Can't wait to talk to the group about this episode. We'll have a field day with it, or to quote Red "it's going to be a gas".

reply

Red said where Rostov and his family spent the winters last night, but I didn't hear it clearly for sure. It sounded like somewhere in Russia, but I'm not sure.

reply

Kellykeybored.... And speaking of houses, and which is which, did anyone notice that the doll on the windowsill in Liz's so-called room looks very much like the doll with the face melting off in the Luther Braxton episode where Liz is remembering the night of the fire? Or maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks.

reply

I saw those dolls, but I didn't think it looked the same as the one in the fire, but maybe. I hope someone compares screencaps, ha.

I remember one of the books in Red's secret apartment was about collecting dolls.

reply

great catch...Kirk is really trying to make Liz believe the fire never happened. i wonder why? this is interesting.

reply

Like Tom was hired to keep an eye on Liz....interesting

reply

Maybe we're going to find out that Mr. Kaplan used to work for Katerina, maybe to help her with the baby?
That could be!

I realize there's also the complication of what happened to Red's own daughter following that Christmas when he was coming back home to his family and disappeared. Did we ever find out? Could Kate have been involved with her as a baby?

Another question: what IS the secret that Dembe has mentioned to Red to come clean about to Liz, the secret in the envelope he destroyed when the secret keeper was exposed to the world, the secret for which he killed Sam before Sam had a chance to say goodbye to Liz? Did Kate know this secret too, or only Dembe?

I also wonder about WHY Red never, ever allowed Katarina's father to meet Liz/Masha.

When Dembe told Red he needed to tell Liz the truth it was right after speaking to The Major. So it's possible that he might have only been referring to the fact that Red was the one that hired Tom to enter Liz's life and he doesn't really know what Red's true connection to Liz is.

reply

Mr. Kaplan is alive! Yay!

This is where her loyalty to Red will definitely end. Once she recovers, I think she will be the one to divulge the entire truth to everyone, including us! She made it clear in "Mato" that what she had done is protect Liz, even if that meant protecting her from Reddington, as she had been charged to do a long time ago.
