From someone who watched Marble Hornets

There really wasn't enough to call this a marble hornets movie. It's a completely different set of characters, the operator seems to have a completely different motive than just driving people insane and there were really no ties to the series itself. I mean they could have just made this a slender man movie having nothing to do with Marble hornets. So I'm confused on how this was even marble hornets movie. Can someone please explain?
