Let me get this straight

OK, so not only does a bunch of talentless losers/posers known as the National somehow get to the top of the charts with their crappy pretentious "indie-rock" muzak, but they also get a crappy documentary, done by the talentless simpleton brother of the lead singer, to somehow garner praise on the festival circuit and the IMDB?

Please explain to me how can this be possible? How did we stoop so low as an art consuming audience?

I mean what exactly is the appeal of this band? It surely ain't the songwriting. Could it be the lead man is a gaunty wanna-be enigma and there's the quirky "brothers factor" going around in the band? What strings were pulled to actually get this band into the charts? Please explain.

I swear this is worse than Beyonce (#1 in the charts in the movie), in a way. The girl at least has top production....

"Fake it to the top", much?

I don't listen to the radio and have never even heard of The National. I watched the movie because I like documentaries and this one had good reviews. I loved it! The band interests me 0%, even after seeing the movie I won't listen to them, it's just not my kind of music. I saw this more as a story about the brother of a famous person than as the story of a band. And as that, it was very fascinating, funny, and a really good movie to watch in the afternoon.
