who would have thought this premise would be so riveting [spoilers]

Some suburban mom going door to door begging for her job doesn't sound exciting. I passed over this movie a few times when it popped up on Netflix.

But damn I was riveted and drawn right in. I was eager to see how it all played out and how each person would react. I had a feeling she wouldn't get the job back, but still, I was super-drawn into the story.

I felt anxiety on her behalf having to go confront those people. I mean damn. Not to mention she has mental health issues anyway. Even without that, that'd be a hard thing to do. I feel awkward going up to people's houses for lesser things than that. Takes a lot of balls.

Anyway...plausible or not, I really enjoyed and was pulled in by this movie.

I liked the ending too. Managed to be a happy-ish ending without her getting the job back. She herself made the sacrifice she'd been begging the others to do, and she felt good now knowing she'd help someone else keep his job (who'd been willing to lose his for her), and knowing that she wasn't invisible and DID matter to at least half the team...AND knowing she had put up a good fight and didn't just roll over and give up when the going got tough. It gave her the power back, too, to make the decision. So she was reinvigorated by the whole ordeal, and it seemed to strengthen her bond with her husband too, seeing how much he was rooting for her. So, good.

You have to kinda know what you are getting with this one. People who complain about movies being "boring" definitely won't like it. But if you are looking for a simple yet elegant story made compelling by some great acting, then here you go. I think this fits the bill for what I would label a "film festival type" movie.

Yeah!! I hade a heavy heart watching this movie. I love the ending.

It's ok to like more than one actor. :))

the melodrama mangled it.

If you were surprised by how much you enjoyed this movie, then you might want to check out the Dardenne brothers' other movies, in particular Rosetta and L'Enfant. Stylistically they are all quite similar.

I wasn't surprised by how much I enjoyed this, since I had seen earlier Dardenne movies and knew what to expect!
