What ruined this movie. ::SPOILERS::

"Found footage" plain and simple. Some movies do well working with found footage like "VHS" and the first few "Paranormal Activity" movies just to give a couple examples.
"Found footage" is supposed to create the feeling of being inside the movie and experiencing events with the characters but in this case it didn't help draw you in since it's so unrealistic for real people to record everything when they are in a crisis situation like they were experiencing in this movie. The scene where Rick and Evan are searching for Liz and Rick suddenly turns on Evan and hits him for still filming but then five seconds later it is no longer a problem is SOOOO stupid!
Then he is still more worried about filming everything then taking care of his sister at the very end?!?
It made me gringe because this movie could have been so much better. The interview with Liz about how things are now after the baby "disappeared" brought tears to my eyes because the actress's reactions and responses to the difficult questions were so geniune. Such a waste of a good idea :(

What? Watching them blabber on about the thickness of the cheese slices did not move you?

It's true... the constantly filming angle is really hard to justify in like 95% of all these kinds of movies. But I like this kind of movie, so I just try to not think about how stupid it is.

Sadly still this movie was hard to like, mainly because of the camera holder. He was so eminently unlikable. I wanted the husband to just deck him most of the time.

I thought the woman playing the sister did a good job though, she was the only thing about the film that seemed good.

I agree, this movie just didn't really work as a found footage film. I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to this genre (I happen to love the first two Paranormal Activity movies), but this one just doesn't work for me at all. The characters' behavior doesn't make sense. And I really HATED the main male character, Evan. I just wanted someone to punch him because he was so irritating. In fact, that's what bothered me about the main female character (Evan's sister): why didn't she ever tell him to shut the **** up?? If she was his sister, I think she would have been the MOST irritated by him, and she would have told him off. I kept waiting for it to happen.

Now that I've started, I might as well finish voicing my complaints. The other thing that really bugged me is how little they actually dealt with the issue of the missing baby, which was actually a unique and intriguing subject for a film. Yes they mentioned it a few times during those interviews, and we overheard her crying about it in her sleep, but come on. If her baby had truly disappeared without any trace and it was a true mystery to her, she would have been obsessively turning it over and over in her mind, trying to figure out what happened. And if she suddenly had a weird physical experience (like that thing in her arm), her husband would have raced her to the hospital immediately because he would have been so worried about her physical health after the baby disappeared. And if she disappeared suddenly one night, he would have called 911 to get the cops to help find her...and when he found her in a fugue state out in the woods, he would have raced her to the nearest hospital to make sure she's ok. He wouldn't have just driven her home. None of their behaviors made sense, given the trauma they had already experienced.

And finally...my last complaint...is the image that we saw after the final credits began. It was like the filmmakers decided, just in case the viewers didn't get the point that it was supposed to be an alien abduction, they would over-explain it by showing a guy in a rubber alien mask and gloves posing in front of the camera in the final scene of the movie. Thanks, I never would have figured it out otherwise.

Rant over. For those who didn't want to read my long post, here's the summary: this movie is a real stinker.
