I like this show as well, my one complaint is that sometimes an hour is not long enough to do justice to the entire state. I think they should go back and revisit some of them. Like California is so large, it's hard to fit everything into one episode.

But the photography is just stunning and I've learned a lot just in the few episodes I have watched so far.

reply

I concur; except that I have a different complaint.

The narrator doesn't have a piercing voice, or indeed stentorian.

On the other hand, what passes for "music" (I call it noise), which is supposed to be kept in the background, particularly while the narrator, who, I assume, has some interesting and informative stuff to say to us while we are enjoying the scenery, is very loud and piercing indeed. So much so that it drowns out the narration so that, in many places, I can hardly understand a word that's being spoken.

This is extremely annoying and I cannot understand how or why the producers released it the way it is.

I liked the show, but would like to know why Maryland & Delaware were lumped together. Rhode Island has an hour long show and it's the smallest state in the union. Maryland Public Television put together a PBS show over an hour long just on the Chesapeake, titled "The Chesapeake Bay by Air". I find it hard to believe you couldn't find an hour to video Maryland and an hour on Delaware

reply

I completely agree. I have seen The Chesapeake Bay from Air multiple times so I was beyond excited for the Maryland episode. However, it was crammed in 30 mins with Delaware consuming the rest of the episode. I was extremely disappointed and felt they didn't mention most of the interesting and sentimental places in the state. They need to do another episode for Maryland and I'd like to see another episode for each state. My only complaint about the series is that they drag on too long about little tidbits instead of trying to cover more of each state. I would like less precise details about a handful of places in each state and would rather have less details about more places. I still love the show and watch it every time it's on!

reply

I'm glad I wasn't the only one dissatisfied by the handling of Maryland and Delaware. Maryland actually got close to 35 minutes (minus commercials) of the hour, then Delaware got the rest. I may be wrong, but I don't remember seeing anything about Dover, Delaware....the State Capital!! How do you cover a state and not cover its capital??? Nothing about Dover AFB (the U.S. Military Mortuary), Dover Downs International Speedway, the number of colleges and universities....oh, wait. Can't cover all that in under 25 minutes. Maryland and Delaware should have gotten a full hour each, just as Rhode Island did. The only other combining I've seen is with North and South Dakota, and I think they should have gotten a full hour each, too.

Heck is where people go who don't believe in Gosh.

I also enjoy this show a lot, however, I take issue with some of their filming choices. I just got through watching the Louisiana episode, and they didn't go north of Baton Rouge. There is some good stuff in Northern Louisiana, and I am deeply disappointed that they didn't show any of it!

reply

I love these episodes. I really do. But I tend to fall asleep every time I'm watching one. better than NyQuil.

They sometimes pick some obscure points to focus on, while ignoring some state hotspots.

I noticed on the CT and MA episodes they jumped around alot in their location. I assume they do this in most episodes, it just happens I know the 2 states best. Doesn't matter, it just didn't seem logical.

They didn't do a good job with Idaho, either. They spent WAY too much time on the Boise and Sun Valley areas but didn't cover anything on the eastern side - Idaho Falls, Pocatello, and the Bear Lake area. That side of Idaho, up by Montana is well known for its' high quality opal. And the southeast corner was used by the fur trappers to trade their furs at an annual rendezvous back in the day. And a bank in Montpelier (close to Bear Lake) was robbed by Butch Cassidy. More interesting to me than the names of the celebs that live part time in Sun Valley!

reply

I agree, and I'm a Boisean! I was hoping they would have spent more time on why Idaho is the Gem State.

I'm glad they did the Steunenberg story though. And Craters of the Moon is amazing from the air.

But no Bruneau sand dune? Really?

Of course, I loved that they included BSU President Kustra's comments on the Vandal fans being "nasty and inebriated"!

I thought the same thing. It was as if Shreveport and the surrounding area doesn't even exist!

Conquer your fear, and I promise you, you will conquer death.

I enjoy the show, too. I've been waiting to see the episode on Arkansas. I finally caught it today, but was a bit disappointed. you would think that a production of this calibre would not state that Fayetteville was "the crossroads of Northeast Arkansas".

I did miss the first 10 minutes of the show, so could anyone tell me if they talked about Jonesboro and Arkansas State University? Or, the central Ozark area of Hardy and the Spring River?

Thanks!

Ehh, it's so so

It would be better if they had some car chases and some shoot outs.

I'm joking!! I love the show!!

The future will soon be a thing of the past.

This show is an amazing concept, but it doesn't do justice to the states. I was born and raised in Ohio and now have lived 20 in Florida. I also spent quality time from my grandparents home states of Alabama & Mississippi. This show will get some good points and then gloss over other spots. Sometimes it goes to long on a subject that didn't need that much time spent on it. It will even complete ignore areas that are important historically & visually. Basically I think it's a great start to learning about the great states of the USA, but that's about it.

I love this show too. I'm watching the Iowa episode right now. Didn't know that's where Rickie Valenz plane crashed.
