Roy and Jamie's Caseloads

I really did like the show - don't get me wrong - but it seemed like Roy and Jamie's individual caseloads were a bit much. It just seemed like they were getting a new case every episode. And with the "main" case involving the Charleston PD vs Lee Anne Marcus that was kind of the main reason for the show, you'd think that they would want to devote most of their time to that case? It just seemed like it was a little bit too unrealistic to me. I can see getting another case here or there, but you'd think they would want to devote the majority of their time to the "main" case involving the PD and Marcus. Any lawyers out there who thought this as well? Or maybe thought the amount of their caseloads were pretty average? I'd be interested to know.

That's the problem with legal dramas. I watched The Good Wife and they have a new case every week. We're supposed to believe that 1 week in a tv show = 1 week in real time. So we're supposed to believe that these cases can be filed and cleared just in a few days whereas in the real world it takes months to go through all the legal system. In these shows, you have to suspend your disbelief and accept that lawyers have a new case every week - even if they've been working on it for several weeks or months. Sometimes there's a murder on day 1, a trial on day 3 and an acquittal/condemnation on day 5.
All the tricks they use to appeal, to refute pieces of evidence or find new witnesses usually take months. And in Reckless it was pretty weird to see these 2 extremely good looking lawyers having so much work with only 1 assistant each and confront each other in court every two weeks and being able to remain fresh, groomed and sexy. I would look like a mess after only 3 weeks.
