I tried to get used to it but the whole time I kept wishing they would have made the special with the old animation.

The weird angular lighting across the characters faces is very distracting and bizarre. Who greenlit this design choice?

agreed. I hoped it would have grown on me but it was to jarring and hard to follow and really see things. Especially the sunlight parts.
shareYes. The old animation was already stylized. But it's like they felt they had to push it even more since this was new.
To me they pushed it so far that I often couldn't tell what was happening. It was incredibly distracting.

Agreed. The original animation would have been a much better choice. It's what all fans grew up with. This is a very annoying animation choice and I would have enjoyed it more if the animation was the original.
