Two questions

This movie was very hard to follow.

I didn't understand two things:

1) Why did Tony suddenly turn on Kimmel and change his testimony/ statement to the cops?
2) Corby (at least, I think it was Corby) said that Kimmel had "taken the bait". How so? What led Kimmel to pursue Mr. Stackhouse and knife him down?

I could have just not been paying close attention, but I truly felt this movie had a convoluted plot structure. Important plot points were kind of glossed over...

Any help in answering these questions is appreciated. Thank you.

I know this is four years ago, but Tony overheard Kimmel and the detective Corby. The conversation convinced him Kimmel killed his wife. He also overhead Kimmel with Stakehouse.

Det. Corby told Kimmel that Stakehouse was going to "get away with it" and that's what pissed him off. Kimmel's big mistake was trying to blackmail stakehouse!!! Stakehouse going to the det. with that info is what I believe sent Kimmel over the edge.

In the movie you see who we believe is Mrs. Stackhouse getting off the stop (hint red coat). You also see him looking at the bus as it drives off and there seems to be the same car that Mr. Kimmel drives. When Mr. Kimmel confronts and stabs the detective who he believes is Stackhouse, he confesses and says “I did it” “You blunderer” which ultimately means Mr. Stackhouse was incompetent and did not kill his wife. However, Mr. Stackhouse knew exactly what he was doing and gave Mr. Kimmel a reason to kill Mr. Stackhouse’s wife. Why did Mr. Kimmel ask
Him to write down his address? This gave Mr. Kimmel a way out, so that the detectives would think there was a serial killer on the lose.
