I think most people missed it, because the jokes are really subtle and none of the characters are funny or joking. The whole ridiculousness of everything in the movie is what is meant to be funny.
*Spoiler Alert*
Sharks climb ropes. The girl picks a hedge trimmer as a weapon. They smell gas after a shark bites through the roof of the car and the car blows up moments later. They stop tornadoes with bombs......I mean, come on, folks, it's absolutely silly. It's making fun of Jaws, Twister, and just about every disaster/animal swarm film in existence.
OMG....Fin jumps into the mouth of the shark and carves his way out. And it happens to be the one that swallowed the girl.

I'm pretty sure it was purposely made to be really cheesy just to mess with people. It's genius.

Somehow I always get the feeling in the back of my mind that the people who make these movies actually are serious and just really, really *beep* at making movies.

Or is that a different subset of movies? i.e the "so bad it's good" movies that weren't actually meant to be bad but just ended up that way because of incompetent film making.

I still don't get how these things are supposed to be funny! If this movie was really a comedy, I seriously doubt that they'd make their "jokes" that subtle. I know it was made intentionally cheesy, but the least they could do was get a better cast, and write a better storyline all together!

Its not supposed to be funny, its supposed to make money which it did.

Totally agree! This movie is genius in what it's doing. I enjoyed the hell out of it! :)
