SyFy should not waste its money on projects like this.
Instead it should return to its 90s-era roots, where it spent money on "news shows" to cover the latest happenings in the world of movies, books, and comic-cons. Plus interviews with the writers, actors, and special effects artists.
I agree with what you're saying. Another wish I have is that they would go back to showing some classic sci-fi series and movies. It's almost like somebody at NBC/Universal was embarrassed to be showing older movies and shows and made them change it. I'd love to see them go back to showing old low budget sci-fi films from the 60s, Roger Corman flicks, and things like 1970s Doctor Who and Space:1999.
That said, I still think it's okay for them to do the occasional Sharknado-type movie... but they've gone overboard with that and their other originals. What was even sillier to me was the fact that they were showing wrestling and reality shows on what is supposed to be "The Sci-Fi Channel."
I agree. There is an audience for older horror/sci-fi films. I'd rather watch the original "The Fly" or Tarantula" than Sharknado a million times. But SyFy makes $$$ from sales from these DVDs (yes I've seen them in Wal-Mart) so it's all about money.
