The music in this movie ...

There is a really superb rendition of a John Coltrane song, Naima. I like it better than the original, but I wonder how I can get a hold of it, find it or but it ... it's really great. As far as I can see there is no soundtrack album to this movie? Anyone know who covered those tunes ... they were really brilliant.

I'm confused the music in the movie did not sound like the original and yet it is credited as being John Coltrane from the Giant Steps album Naima? Any Coltrane fans that can tell me what is what here?

The John Coltrane tune you heard is 'Naima' and the performance was not by Coltrane. In fact the actor who played the alto saxophone in the movie (Dawid Ogrodnik) performed the music in the movie according to the music credits of the film.

If you want to hear John Coltrane's version of 'Naima' it is readily available in a lot of albums of his. Check out this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naima

Thanks ... but NO! ;-)

I actually have the Coltrane version of this song ... and I liked the version
in the movie a lot, lot better. The whole point of the post was to be able
to find a recording of the movie version ... do you have any idea where I
might find it.

Thanks for the reply though. What did you think of that version ... that
rendition in the movie was one of the best versions of this type of jazz
ever to me anyway.
