american salute

Mickey gave an american salute after receiving his beret (not british palm facing out). Kind of noticeable for any serving soldier. Did they use any advisors?

reply

The British aren't the brightest fellows out there.

reply

Yeh true but still 10 times brighter than Americans.

reply

LOL, owned

reply

Er, no.

Remember they started a war with the Nazis in 1939 and nearly got themselves wiped off the map. Would have if not for lend-lease and Hitler's own bout of cranial-rectal inversion syndrome when he declared war on America and the Soviet Union in 1941.

reply

Nope.
You clearly know nothing on European history.

Try reading a book you utter moron maybe then you won't look so stupid!

So eager to play..
So reluctant to admit it!

reply

HAHA that's a Joke At least they didn't caught completely by surprise half way through a world war by the Japs lol

The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few..

reply

Army and RAF, palm out, RN palm down!!! US salute similar to RN !

reply

Andrew has it right, im ex-navy, the reason the RN is different as far as i know, is because hands used to get grubby on ships, so you would hide your palms in the salute because it's cleaner to do so.

personally until this moment i never knew the army or raf was any different, the RN salute is as ingrained to me as a bow.

reply

UK RN Medal ribbon positioning is different as well????

In this movie did they wear the beret US style??? salute people in civvies?

The SBS and Marines will probably salute the RN way.

US military adopted most of the oppressors [GB Lord North and George 111] customs and tradition. Had Britain only a single difficulty at the time of the war of independence the need for for the hated taxation might have not been instituted. And using the dedicated resources of the then Empire in one isolated place might not have stretched the Royal Navy and movement of troops.

It [UK] had just come out of very long protracted struggle 1756-1763 which some see as GLOBAL [that means World] war on so many fronts. Some of this was to insure the well being of the american colonists. George Washington has been suggested as an instigator of the beginning of hostilities in that area while a serving officer in the British Colonial army. Britain was soon to become again embroiled as power balancer in the post French revolution period. Remember that France and the US were a sort of ally. Odd that this could happen when the citizens of the colony demanded protection during those seven years of war. That would be like the US and ISIS becoming allies against atheists perhaps???

I think if the only thing that Britain needed to concentrate about was the Americas except that some were greedy for expansion the independence thing might not have happened. But something for sure would have happened in the not very distant future as Britain got out of the trading of slaves. we know what the Americans in the 1860's PRETENDED they cared about. Slavery. Good 'excuse' to slaughter our own peoples. Then when it is all over go back to treating them like lesser peoples. Years ago they used go 'COON' hunting. Perhaps some still do. But the news items do not paint a very pleasant picture of a nation that killed and killed to make black people as free as the founding fathers suggested. 'All of the people' and the founders, did they have slaves? Were they part of the 'All' of the people.
Mind you that is a bit like the commandment 'thou shalt not kill'. Well that does get broken down late on because we then go into the 'but if a man shall kill another man's manservant he will be punished' See how it is now diluted. It does go onto discuss various recompense and other matters but does suggest they were only classing a certain privileged grouping as humans. Not the whole shebang. Same as the declaration.
Sorry you got this ranting but a few gung ho's always crop up on threads. Hopefully they can read and tear their marine corps hair out with anger.

Mind you US military all the very best to you. Tongue in cheek.

reply

I thought that in the US Southern or Midwest a salute is with the right arm and hand held very high and palm facing forward.
