"She was born in New York?!"


This surprised the interviewees, because her accent was non-American. But how is her accent related to her birthplace? She didn't learn to speak on the day she was born. Why do the interviewees think there's a connection between accent and birthplace?

If, you're born and brought up in a place you will speak with that accent.


Only those with no valid argument pick holes in peoples spelling and grammar. 

Yes but your accent depends on where you're brought up, not where you are born. Not everybody is brought up where they're born.

Vivian's accent is not the accent of her birthplace.

These interviewees think everyone grows up in their birthplace. That's not always true. Me and Vivian are proof of that.
