Will it always be only American History and not world History?

I'd like to see some European thrown in there.

They'll wait until the ratings come in for this, then they'll have "Drunk History International with John Oliver"

"IF THE DEVIL HAD A NAME, IT WOULD BE CHUCK FINLEY!!"

That's pretty good.

reply

Great, great question. I'd love to get an answer from the producers on this.

Of course, all this presumes that the powers-that-be are as enchanted with the show--and eager to see it evolve--as we are.

reply

who cares about the rest of the world?? AMURICAAAA YEAH!!

reply

It could still be world history with America involved. Like when you threw nukes on Japan for example.

reply

Or like when the Japanese destroyed our fleet at Pearl Harbor unprovoked before that....

Context. Just saying.

reply

Agreed... there is a lot of history to tell while drinking, I hope they branch out to world history :)

reply

Yeah, they need to go into the Roman Empire! There's some crazy stories they can just go off on.

I definitely hope so, because this is getting extremely repetitive, even if the concept is still funny.

The simple truth is: Few countries have a history as short as the United States. There's going to be a lot of civil war and revolution, and I suspect the budget is kept quite low due to re-use of wigs and tophats.

IMDb-boards would be less confusing if people would mark their signatures clearly.

There's still a lot of regions that deserve the full treatment. I don't know what's on tap for Season 3, but I'm sure New Orleans has a ton of interesting history. And I might get ridiculed for this, but Utah has some of the wackiest history you could ever imagine. Brigham Young was a character you just couldn't make up. I hope someone gets the ear of Derek Waters on that one. The Mountain Meadows Massacre on Drunk History would be just unreal.

reply

I think one of the biggest reasons this show works is because you can give a geographic region of the US and a time period and most domestic viewers (for the most part..I think) would be able to understand the political and social climate of that particular time in the US.

For instance:
1940 Montgomery, AL
1780s Philadelphia, PA
1920s/30s Hollywood, CA
1941 Hawaii

And understanding the time period and a basic understanding of the characters involved will generally lend itself to a more amusing story. Foreign history, while I'm sure it could be done and done well, might be a bigger challenge if the audience knows nothing of the players and time period involved.

There is a UK version out now.

I understand. Thank you for telling me. -The masked bandit

There is a UK version out now.

...And it sucks ...unfortunately.

In the UK version it's drunk comedians telling the stories, which isn't a bad idea per se, but they reuse the same guys for every episode.

Maybe they thought it would be a good thing to hire guys who's job it is to make people laugh, but the funny thing is, they aren't funnier than the drunk "nobodies" on the original show.

Still, the drunks on the original show aren't reused, so the UK version shouldn't do it either. And whereas the original show is a veritable "who is who" of famous actors, the UK version is more or less a "who are they?"

I would love nothing better than to see a "real" UK version. With regular drunks, or at least more variety of stars. Be it them telling the stories or acting them out.

It would be so cool to see Rowan Atkinson, John Cleese, Simon Pegg etc. to "compete" with stars like Jack Black, Will Ferrell and Jim Carrey...

I don't know what show you've been watching but there are a fair amount of comedians as storytellers in the US version and I'm sure most of the "nobodies" are at least amateur actors and not random street folk.

reply

But remember, Drunk History started out on Funny or Die. It took a while before it came to Comedy Central. Give the UK version a chance and I'm sure that a few more well known comedians might show up.

The U.K. Version is in its second season and is pretty decent
