If you call that severe breakdown and almost shooting TT (would have if Elise had not physically blocked him) "hardly any grief from dad", then what exactly did you expect?
.

reply

Yep, that lasted all about 5 mins.

Spoilers continued.

That's the story - although Karl is supposed to be so devastated that he can't go on and spends a year convalescing and his marriage ruined.

You have to see the original version which is Danish and Swedish (Bron/Broen) to really get an idea of both Elise (Sonia) and Karl (Martin). They are both underdeveloped in this rendition. Also, the finding of Adam was a real puzzle and major. In the original version Sonia figures it out while Martin has just lost all rationale. She gets so close. She also saves Martin from killing TT and keeps TT alive because TT really wanted to die knowing that he permanently destroyed Martin. Martin doesn't recover from the loss of his son and spends time in psychiatric counseling trying to get past it all. He is not in the police department at the start of season 2 but is on some kind of hiatus. His wife is also not so willing to be with him. So, Martin is a broken man. Meanwhile TT is incarcerated. The second season is fantastic as well - Swedish/Danish one - as Martin and TT face off again. But it is Sonia who is the genius at all levels - she might be rude and insenstive but she is beyond brilliant. Something that doesn't surface in this series with Elise. Not the actress's fault, it is just not in the writing.

Kudos! You did an excellent breakdown on why even the Brit/French version was inferior to the Swedish/Danish version. (Gawd forbid, but I don't want to even think about the American version. <shudder> ) I found that, for me, the central flaw in The Tunnel was the MUCH weaker Elise as compared to the "beyond brilliant" Saga. (BTW, Sonia was the actress, not the character.)

The American version was beyond hideous. Nothing translated well because the border situation is so different too. Or maybe the characters - I don't know but it was god-awful. But the American version of The Killing is not bad at all, except for the last season. I can't get a hold of he Danish one anywhere in the US. I am waiting for Bron/Broen season 3 to be shown in US. I think it will be shown on Hulu but I don't know when. {Thanks to your post. I just checked and S3 started in September - so I am watching now.)

Yes, Saga. She is without a doubt the best and played perfectly by the actress. I could watch this show over and over and I have. She is just amazing. She cannot be duplicated.

Send me an email direct to gorbals406 AT gmail.com and I'll upload Season 01 to Dropbox for you. Season 01 is 20 episodes with great English subtitles hardcoded.

She is phenomenal. She puts Dustin Hoffman's Rain Man to shame by comparison.
