It bothers me that the characters act too modern

Am I the only one who has a problem with that? The informal way the characters interact with one another is way too modern. Mary and her ladies in waiting talk like teenage girls today. They all walk like they're at school. Didn't ladies back then act more reserved and rigid?

Also, Bash. Really? A boy named Sebastian is called BASH? At French court? In the 16th Century?

Sometimes the people on the show also have these modern conceptions, like things that feminists in the 50s would say and think. Things that wouldn't even be uttered back then.

All those things were intended. It wasn't supposed to be a 'documentary' (I hope you do not think that the show is historically accurate, not including your problems with the show). The writers wrote it that way to cater to the viewers of 'The CW', which is skewed towards the younger viewer.

Maybe life is a dream and we wake up when we die?

Yeah, it's extremely inaccurate. Honestly, they should've just made it entirely fictional and not about Mary Queen of Scots. It's a bit weird to try your best to misinform young viewers.

I agree with Sad. They should have just made a completely fiction series, instead of using historical names and sticking them onto modern characters and messing up the history. That way, for ex. Francis and Mary could live happily ever after in the end and have children, or whatever.

I just had to learn to enjoy First season it REALLY bothered me that the costumes were not even CLOSE to being period appropriate. At least that got better.

I turned it off 20 minutes into the first episode. It bothered me that much. Won't watch any more.
I agree that it should have been made as an entirely fictional series, not based on Mary Queen of Scots.

While I can fully admit that the costumes are not even close to period appropriate, I think half the reason I watch is the costumes. I love them, and since I gave up on the show being even kind of historically accurate long ago, why not have costumes I like and want to recreate.

My first thought. Also, as a former student of historical dress design it annoys me no end thatbMary and the ladies in waiting seem to be wearing prom dresses in episode 1. As a student of history, I find the whole story ridiculous. Historical figures are so fascinating just as they were that I am horrified by what they become in the hands of some writers. The Elizabeth movies with Cate Blanchette were infuriating. I kept waiting fi them to get to the good parts, but they never did and filled the story with totally fictional crap!
