terrible absolutely terrible

I saw a preview of the upcoming season and it was horrible. Imagine a modern day romeo and Juliet sorry but told the parents point of view. Add racial stereotypes and other awkward forced moments and you get this train wreck. The crap they expect us to watch these days, it's ridiculous.

I hated the pilot but im going to be honest... there was no racial stereotypes. The Latino family could have been white. I have no idea why they were written to be Latino when he is whiter than the Caucasian guy.
My main issue is that it is too pc, they added the Latino so as not to be an all white cast but the story is horrible and the characters are unlikeable.
The "Surprise" at the end i saw happening 5 minutes in and i did not care.

Completely agree with this. What racial stereotypes were there? It was horrible though.

reply

The wife is clearly not Caucasian.

reply

Because she has that accent? There was no reason for that family to be written as latino, they did it to be PC and it's failing.

So you're saying that Latino's (or any family of color) would only be included be PC????...instead of, I don't know, being more of a reflection of society? 15% of all new marriages are interracial marriages and of those, 43% where white-hispanic marriages. So nearly 1/15 new marriages are between between whites-hispanics.

What do you mean the Latino guy is "whiter" than the Caucasian guy? Latino/Hispanic is not a race; The actor's name is Ricardo Chavira and he is from San Antonio like I am and I am also of Mexican descent. But the thing is, plenty of us Hispanic Texans are descended directly from Spaniards so we don't have the Amerindian mix like Mexicans from modern day Mexico. So yes we are Caucasian but culturally Hispanic.

Add racial stereotypes

Is it a bad thing for a Hispanic child to be Valedictorian and attend Stamford University?

I look Hispanic and I am not. Is that bad???

When you're not concerned with succeeding, you can work with complete freedom.

It's not the worst show they've had in that Time Slot Of Doom, not by a long shot, but yeah, it's pretty damn bad. I only watched half of it and couldn't find anything else on so I just turned the damn TV off. There once was a time when there was a four hour block of great shows on Thursday night, but now there's just 'Parks and Rec' and 'The Daily Show/Colbert Report'. Oh, well.

reply

I thought the last two minutes were decent, but otherwise it was pretty bad. It almost seemed like they were going for a more subtle comedy, but made it TOO subtle.

"They made their own choice. They chose family. And, well, isn’t that kinda the whole point?"

reply

Who at NBC gives the go to these horrible shows?

It still wasn't as bad as The New Normal and Wildcats.
