Surprisingly good

I'm seeing a lot of negativity on this board, but I watched this last night and ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

First, I should say that I don't feel especially compelled to complain about how this film (or miniseries) doesn't line up perfectly with the true events. That is not something that I care about at all. Films that are based on true stories are exactly that--based on--they are not true stories themselves. And I'm okay with that. So any complaints about historical accuracy just seem like nitpicking to me, for the most part.

With that out of the way, I thought that Hirsch and Grainger both did great jobs and that the production team did a really good job of bringing the 1930s to life. The story takes time to develop--B&C don't even begin their crime spree until about an hour in--but considering that the final product is about three hours long, it makes sense that it's going to take it's time laying the backstory and building up its characters.

Not all films are able to hold my interest and I often find myself getting fidgety as I try to watch things, but with this one I was able to just settle in and go with it. Just a few nights ago I watched The Highwaymen on Netflix and I thought that Bonnie & Clyde acted as a good compliment to that film, telling the story from B&C's point of view.

If you're interested in the Bonnie and Clyde story and haven't seen this, it's worth checking out.
