So Clyde was giving them both up?

Right before the ambush he talks about how he enjoys the scenery and tells Bonnie he loves her while taking her hand. Was he aware that they were about to be ambushed and just didn't care anymore? It seemed like he knew something was up

In real life, he didn't know.

What the writers wanted us to think, who knows.

That's the impression I got too. He also seemed like he was basically initiating their demise when he was talking about what he had to do wasn't pretty or however he phrased it. Plus he overheard Henry's dad on the phone arranging the deal earlier, so he must have known calling Henry was going to put the plan in motion. Very bizarre.

According to the movie, he knew what was going to happen. The writers would have us to believe that Clyde had had some sort of attack of conscience and had decided to end their crime spree the only way possible.

A heart can be broken, but it still keeps a-beatin' just the same.
