Let me preface this by saying that I absolutely love Melissa McCarthy. Her films aren't always great, but I think she is hilarious and I love her personality in interviews. However, I went to see this film last night in a near full theater and it was dead silent throughout almost every single joke. There were moderate chuckles here and there, but never once did an eruption of laughter happen in the theater. It was extremely awkward throughout the experience. Toward the middle half of the film people started to get up and leave. I will say that in the history of me seeing movies I've only left a film once, and that was during 10,000 BC. I did end up leaving and getting my money back. They didn't even kind of question giving me a refund. I wouldn't have put up a fight for it, but I didn't seem to be the first one asking for a refund. The reason I'm writing this is to say if you think you should see this film just wait til the Bluray.

By saying "oh grow up" you're implying that jvanness90 is somehow being immature or childish. How do you interpret that from what he/she wrote? Honestly jvanness90's report seemed fair and honest, albeit a bit anecdotal but isn't that what most of the comments on here are?

You might disagree with someone but dismissing them outright with an underhanded (and illogical) remark isn't the way to voice disagreement. If you think jvanness90 is wrong then explain why and share your own opinions of the movie and why you found it to be so much better than jvanness90 thinks it was.

Yea looks pretty terrible

Only movie I've ever walked out of was rob zombies Halloween 2 and idk why I was there in the first place.

This is the type of movie I can't see myself watching

Spy was entertaining but this is too much

This wasn't just because the movie wasn't funny. The editing and direction, my Lord, never have I witnessed a comedy that cut away from each and every scene in such an uncomfortable fashion, almost like a hit-and-run driver with really bad jokes. Like it was almost intended to try to be awkward, or... something...

There were two women in my theatre(it had about fifteen in it) that laughed. Aside from that laughs were so far and between that it was almost dead silence. We finally walked out a little after sixty agonizing minutes in the theatre. Horrible film.

On a side note. Why would you even suggest someone buy the Bluray which costs more than the ticket to this????

I was more talking about a rental. It's definitely not one that I'd encourage people to spend money on. And I'd have to agree with the poster that said that the editing and direction were terrible because they were. The music cues were absolutely dreadful as well. I'd just recommend people stay away from the film altogether.

Yes, it was poorly done on almost all levels, editing, directing, and music too. At least there were some good performances, but without a good script and those other elements, what do you have?

Honestly, I don't think that any of the performances were even the problem. The performances were solid. It was every other part of the movie making process that didn't work.

I just felt that some people phoned in their performances, most did a decent job though(for her age that girl was quite good.) As I said, this is the one area I wouldn't complain about the film.... well, that and the stunt work for the prat falls.

Yeah me too, UGH I should have watch hardcore henry instead. I think the most I laughed was the first couch gag but thats it.

Yeah. The only funny scene in the movie. Not only did they use it a second time at the end, but we saw it in the trailer too.

I have only come home from the movie, and I had a similar experience. I sat through the whole movie, and I thought the movie quite good. Yes, hardly were there a laugh from the 10 people in the audience. But it was not that kind of comedy. You don't have to see a comedy where you have trouble walking out of the theater because you are straining from a severe stitch from uproarious laughter. This one was one of those laugh every so often type comedies.

I found the movie entertaining enough to say that I didn't want a refund or regret seeing the movie.

Just curious - why did you walk outta 10,000BC. IIRC I couldn't get over the characters speaking English. After enjoying the wonder that was Apocalypto, well it just felt too darn weird.

I left 10,000 B.C. because it felt so cringe worthy. The acting was flat, the story was flat, and the special effects weren't very special. It was just all around terrible. Apocalypto is fantastic film though. I think it's vastly underrated and often forgotten.
