Mowrer's book is an important primary source, providing context to the infamous Nazi period by showing what immediately preceded it. Its chief value lies in the many facts it communicates, most of them correct, or at least not in essence wrong; its main weakness is the author's own analysis, which while often perceptive is also very obviously marred by his political biases. The latter notwithstanding, "Germany Puts the Clock Back" is to be recommended to all historians and students interested in the topic it covers.
