The use of mirrors in ep 1 series 4

There are some shots used in Hollywood known as wagon wheel shots. You know the ones I mean, those that are shot through the wheel of a wagon as the bad men ride in to town. These shots are usually shot by novices because they think they're inventing them and sometimes directors use them on TV - like the old westerns - and rid themselves of the habit for when they move in to features.
This episode was full of them. Mainly with the use of mirrors. In the slipper baths scene Morse is talking to a colleague yet we only see the colleague or Morse in the mirror. Then there is a focus pull with the other character, not focused, takes up a large part of the screen.
The other thing the episode did was to have the characters in their single shots on the wrong side of the frame. Just look at some of the American TV series and see how neat and clean the shots are when the subject looks across the scene not with their noses up against the edge of the frame.
This is an excellent series with good acting and scripts so don't spoil it. Not that you'll actually read this.

The constant reflections and mirror shots drove me bonkers! Too distracting, along with the stupid, modern fake 'clouds' which didn't exist in the 1960s that were left in.
I was trying to figure out the symbolism of the mirrors, but it went over my head. The common images we see in many shows of a face reflected in a shiny table can be construed as "As above, so below." But this episode had a reflection every minute or two.

I thought series two of Broadchurch had a lot of mirror shots, but this ep takes the cake!
