Question About The Episode "Harvest"--*** CONTAINS SPOILERS***

I do not know how to black out the spoilers, so if you have not seen this episode, and do not want to be spoiled, then I suggest you stop reading here. You have been warned. Anyway, near the end of the episode, I could not hear what the health professional was saying about Joan as to why she ended up in the hospital. So, I would like to know what happened to Joan to cause her to be hospitalized? Because I could not hear the scene, I thought maybe the guy she was seeing beat her up, but I'm not sure. I appreciate the responses.

reply

A fall caused her abortion.

reply

She had a fall (not sure if the boyfriend was involved) and miscarried. And Morse still not call her parents. That was so annoying. As Thursday told him, it's not his place to get involved

reply

I assume Joan gave his name to the hospital, how else would he have known to go there. She felt she could trust him to keep her secrets even if it pained him to do so, which I think it did

reply

In those times, turning up at hospital pregnant but single would have raised all kinds of questions.

Chances are she gave them Morse's number as the "father", in an attempt to avoid the embarrassment of having to reveal the truth.

reply

I'm not sure Joan did give Morse's name and number to the physician. I heard Norse say that Joan's neighbor called him.

reply

A fall caused her to miscarry...now, what I was wondering was if she fell on purpose or if the "boyfriend" was to blame? In any case, Joan isn't very fair to Morse, involving him in her problems and causing him so much pain. Honestly, she really doesn't deserve him at all.

reply

The doc said she had a fall and implied she had a miscarriage. I think she was abused. I just want to know if she had known about her pregnancy. She was smoking and drinking... unless it's just how it was back in the 60s. But she told Morse that she can't go cause she made such a mess of herself... It is too sad. I hope that she comes back next series!!

reply

It used to be believed that the placenta protected babies from such things and pregnant women weren't stigmatised for drinking and smoking.

reply

It was not known that these things would harm the fetus.

reply

I meant she can't go to her parents

reply

She couldn't have gone pregnant, but maybe after her "miscarriage."
