Wait didn't Laurie kill herself?

I mean the ending of her episode clearly indicated she was committing suicide, and here in the final episode shes alive and well.

reply

It only indicating she was intending to but obviously changed her mind.

reply

Do you mean Nora ?

reply

Laurie and the scuba diving, remember? It was implied she might have tried to kill herself.

reply

I have no idea what that was about ... did they ever pick that thread up?

reply

She went scuba diving in at the end of the penultimate episode. Many assumed she killed herself because earlier in that episode Nora said it would be a great way to do it without much suspicion. The next time we saw her was 20+ years later, alive and well.

reply

maybe it was in the afterlife? who knows this show makes no sense.

reply

It was inferred she was going to take her life and originally even the writers planned on this, but they changed their mind when filming the last episode. I'm not surprised because I didn't see Laurie in the previous episode in that afterlife that was only for DEAD people. So, since I didn't see Laurie, I assumed she was still alive. I think they made the right call.

Compared to other people, the deck of cards she was given (the departure) wasn't so bad, was it? Now Nora is another matter.

reply

Yeah when Kevin was in the afterlife place i kept waiting for him to see Laurie there, i was thinking the one that came knocking when he was with Patti was gonna be Laurie but it turned out to be Meg.

But i mean it is kinda random she was alive in the finale, in her last episode she was on the phone with Jill and crying but trying not to let Jill know, you could see on Laurie's face she was talking to Jill for the last time. We had the whole thing with Nora saying Scuba Diving was the best to kill yourself, and Laurie went Scuba Diving at the end and acting all emotional, and the episode went off with her going in the water and the credits rolled with nothing but the sound of the ocean.

Just seemed like a bit of a cop out to go, "oh no shes alive she changed her mind you just didn't see it". They could have at least showed us a scene of her coming back up from the water in the final episode to let us know instead of just showing her alive 20 some years later.

reply

I hear you, and your objection is very reasonable.
I guess the writers decided to go with the "shock, surprise" factor by letting us see her alive with Nora making a phone call like that. I have to admit, it worked for me.

reply

Funny, when I watched the final episode, I kind of forgot that she went scuba diving, hinting at her committing suicide. As much as I liked this show, there were times when it would just veer left for no reason.

reply

Yes she did, there is no reason for her to be alive in the final episode other than lazy writing imo.
