Season3 Episode 4

This episode started well, but as it progressed everything started to fall apart. Both Kevin and Nora had to face their demons while in Australia. Kevin had to deal with his mental problems (he thought that he saw Evie on the street) and Nora was left with a dilemma to leave things as they are, or to risk everything and possibly see her children. Faced with this, I personally think that she sabotaged herself with her answer to the last question. In the end she had regrets, Kevin burned his book and now they went their separate ways.

We basically knew that Nora won't choose to go cause we already saw her much older in one previous scene of the show, but now we know how it happened.

I'm not sure it's the end of the story line for Nora in regards to getting back to her kids. We do know she's there in the future (if it's still the same world that is...okay, okay maybe that's too much) so she probably doesn't go, but I don't know if she'll stop pursuing it for now.

It will be mighty interesting to see what happens now that Kevin and Nora are basically broken up. I believe they're destined and doomed to go down opposing and clashing paths and Nora may very well end up being his demise in some way. I guess Kevin Sr. and Grace are going to try and get Kevin to live up to his Jesus Potential, haha, and maybe even attempt to sacrifice him? I don't know, but he'll be sucked into their world now most likely and maybe give into what he's been resisting.

I loved the last few minutes of the episode. The fight between Kevin and Nora was great, the gradual use of, 'Take On Me,' the shot of the water dripping off of Nora and Kevin looking out of the window. All beautiful compositions and it really made me excited for next week's episode!

It occurred to me as well that the scene where we saw the older Nora might be "on the other side" where she went via the machine, but it's probably too far fetched. But again, you never know. Everything is possible in this show.

Ever since that scene, I had a feeling that Kevin will sacrifice himself (Jesus-like) to save the Earth. Kevin Sr. has to work on that cause Kevin is in denial for now (even burned the book). I can't wait for the next episode to see the interaction between Kevin and Kevin Sr.

I really liked it. Especially the early parts. It felt like they went very "Lost" with the style in the beginning scenes. This entire season seems more "Lost" style than previous seasons.

reply

I agree this episode seemed a bit different then the rest to me as well. Maybe a different director? Not in a bad sense, it was gripping, but I could clearly see the different style from the previous episode. You're right, it was more "Lost" like.

reply

Absolutely! Nice observation.

Both are great actors, but Carrie Coon is amazing. I can't wait to see her let loose in Fargo like she has in this series.

I knew as soon as she answered she would sacrifice the kid to cure cancer she would be disqualified. That was pretty cool how the ladies packed it in and said, "see ya!"

As for Kevin and his seeing things, I loved how Lauri calmed him down and brought him back to reality.

On to next week- the two Kevin's and grace. Should be interesting to see what they want him to do.

reply

Oh, is she in Fargo as well? I only watched the first season so far. Cool, I like her acting. 😎

Did you also get the feeling that she was deliberately sabotaging herself with that answer? Especially after she figured out that the baby thing at the bus stop was a test. I had a feeling that she wanted to test them in return with that answer, but it backfired. They wouldn't play that game.

reply

No, I didn't think that. I thought she answered what she thought regardless that she agreed to watch the baby at the bus stop. I'm not sure she even had enough time to process it all.

reply

Okay. I watched her body language during that scene, and had a feeling that she deliberately lied to stop the experiment, but after it was all over, she had regrets. I could be wrong.

reply

I liked the episode. And I had the opposite to your reaction. The more it progressed, the more I liked it.

I didn't get the feeling that Nora sabotaged herself with her answer, but maybe I missed something. As a whole I didn't understand what they were testing for with that question.

I feel bad for Matt, because no one respects his book. Two copies (correct?), both destroyed by one of the Kevins. Poor guy.

reply

I didn't mean that the episode started to get worse and worse, but that their relationship and their state of minds started to get worse and worse. Everything seemed idyllic in the beginning, and then progressively started to fall apart.

Regarding Matt's book, it's possible that someone found the copy Kevin Sr. threw in the garbage and we'll see it again (minus that one page).

reply

Oh, sorry about that. Reading comprehension is great, when you can manage it lol

It is possible that someone dug Matt's book out of the trash. There's still hope for his Holy Word! Still, he put so much effort into it, and no one takes it seriously...
