New writers wrecking show?

I enjoyed the first three seasons of The Affair. I just watched the first episode of season four, and can't help but think it's all taking a sharp leftie turn. Gay stuff, racial stuff. The Animal Farm quotes about propaganda? Is that what this season is going to be... A bunch of leftist propaganda? White men are bad, etc.

I'll watch another episode or two, but I think I can see where this stuff is going.

I'd give it a chance...because propaganda is just as big a tool of the left as the right..and the gay son stuff was at least an opportunity to see Helen projecting a lot of stuff on Noah..
The "white savior trope" is bothersome because they seem to take that stance and stereotype anytime a white guy tries to do the right thing or be helpful to any non white..Noah jumping to conclusions about the kid couldn't be based on his past record, his having to repeat the class and his lack of involvement? Wouldn't anyone have assumed the worst?

It does seem, though, that no matter what Noah does or tries to do beyond his own self interest.. he'll still always be judged and condemned as being selfish. Is that the new normal stereotype for white guys?

***Spoiler Warning***

I just got done watching episode two. White men are bad trope confirmed.
Cole is demeaned in this episode going so far as to have kids draw a penis on his face in magic marker. Another big angry white man physically attacks Allison putting her in a choke hold. She is of course rescued by a handsome Latino man. The only other white male that plays any part that I remember is the surfer who hits Cole with a surfboard and smokes drugs off of tinfoil.
the series was good the first season, ok the second season, then quickly turned to trash... They're clearly just stringing along episodes as they do with any mediocre TV show...

Unlike the vast majority of TV shows, the first season of The Affair felt like a proper story, a cohesive whole and was capable of meaning something... The second season added a layer to that, so was passable for a TV show... The rest is simply milking an audience...

The only exceptional thing is how long it has taken this show to devolve... Most shows end up this way after the first episode or two of thier first season...

I liked the first two seasons about equally, although I give the edge to the first. By the third, I waded my way through it. Probably would have bailed had I not invested in watching the first two.

I was surprised to hear they were given a fourth season. Watched a few clips from it, and I'll pass.

Animal Farm was an allegory about communism, so it's hardly left wing propaganda. It's kind of scary to me that anyone would assume any highlight of the use of propaganda by governments was 'leftie' or 'rightie' propaganda- how can drwing attention to the use of propaganda by the powerful in general, itself be propaganda?

Also, gay stuff and racial stuff isn't leftie stuff, neither is 'white men are bad' - left wing politics are about generally recognising the contribution of the workforce to the prosperity of a nation and that the workforce should share in that prosperity and not be exploited by the richer/ruling class who milks their hard work for their own gain. I mean, there are wild variations on it, but that's the basic theme. It' not about being gay or straight or white or whatever. You might be thinking of social liberalism, i.e. the belief that people should generally be free to live their lives as they wish as long as they aren't hurting anybody, whatever their race, religion, gender, sexuality etc. Which is not the same as economic liberalism which is traditionally more right wing - i.e. in very basic terms, let the market dictate everything, let businesses be free to profit however they wish.

I see lots of people getting confused about these things. Anyway, I don't think that the introduction of a gay character and a black character means anything like what you're suggesting, and it's kinda weird to think that, as though the introduction of gay people and black people somehow means they're going to put across the message white men are bad? That seems like some serious projection on your part.

You write well, even if it is doublespeak and projective. Are you a writer for this show? lol

I said "racial stuff", not the "introduction of a black character". It's more about the interaction and where it looks like it's going. I understand he is teaching at an inner city school where there doesn't seem to be a single white student? We'll see where it goes. I don't have anything against gays or blacks, but I am getting sick of tv and movies professing to teach me about these things. Racial justice, gay justice, white men are bad, etc. Leftie, SJW, label it whatever you want.

btw, white men are bad message reinforced big time in episode two. See my spoiler post above.
