Jenna Elfman? UGH!!!

That alone kills the show for me. How is she working again? I thought her career died over a decade ago.

Even worse, she continues to play the exact same character she always has. I'd be more forgiving if she mixed it up or did something risky but - nope - shes just on autopilot like always.

This show aside, a look at her credits will show that she's been working during the past decade and thus, her career didn't die. As for "How is she working again?" Um, it's called being hired, that's how. You really should have been able to figure that one out on your own.

Woah, wait a minute. If you thought her career 'died' over a decade ago, then how would you know her trend for how she plays her characters? Sounds to me like you either already knew her career didn't die or you are just grabbing at some reason to dislike her. Which is it buddy?

The most recent film I saw her in was the Looney Tunes movie with Brenden Fraser and Steve Martin. And in a few older movies she just happens to be in, like EdTV and Can't Hardly Wait.

Shes just very flat and kind of annoying as an actress in general. Here it just exacerbates that issue because you have to feel for her character but Elfman isn't that strong an actress.

I can't say Parker Posey would be better. But shes a more talented actress and would have at least been interesting. Elfman is playing the same character she always plays.

Her work history would tend to disagree with you. I believe what you mean is that in your opinion, she's not that strong of an actress.

So every time she's acted in something, she's played the role of a mother who is yearning to relive her teenage years after being married to a blind man for about 16 years? I never saw Dharma & Greg (1997) but from the sounds of it, I'll need to.

wow that first post was obviously by a total dickmonger

Jenna is wonderful. I'm just not sure this show is needed with something very much like it already on the air (The Goldbergs)

reply

I don't know what it means to be a "dickmonger" but I do know that I like everything about this show EXCEPT Elfman and her character.

reply

I agree, Jenna Elfman is the only thing I don't like about the show.

reply

She doesn't look like an elf anymore. She looked like an elf on Dharma and Greg.

Jenna Elfman is a deal breaker. She is a very abnoying actress. I resoect her ability to play the ignorant midwest mom role because she nails it. However, it is no longer 1990, and I think her character insults women today.

I prefer Parker Posey who in the pilot played a more realistic mother for contemporary times. Also, Parker is an actual actress vs a character.

I love j.k. and wanted to give the show a chance, but Jenna is so cringe worthy and awful it just kills the show. In fact, this was kind of the concensus around the university. Though it is a west coast uni, so maybe other areas just love her "I'm an idiot woman" character. Most people I know prefer a realistic and funny modern character.

Shame on Bateman switching and demeaning women.

Imdb has become a place for more and more personal hate spewing. I dont really understand people. Jenna's antics are adorable and hilarious. She has so much wacky expressions and loony behaviours. She is perfect for the role of overenthusiastic, eccentric yet deeply caring Mama.

It's called trolling. People know that they can troll on IMDb and get away with it, so they do it. They ignore common sense, logic, etc and then act like others are the problem. For example, in a topic for another show, someone actually referred to me as being retarded. That word is very offensive because it's making use of the word 'retarded' in a bad way. There are millions of people in the U.S. alone who are indeed 'retarded' but it's just who they are, it's not a bad thing. So I point that fact out and the offender has made multiple posts more or less with the attitude of "I don't care." They also ignored the fact that other people have noticed the same thing I have (main discussion, not the 'retarded' comment) and even ignored links to vouch for what I've said. Yet, that person (and their friends apparently) have decided that I'm a douche bag.

So yeah, IMDb is a safe haven for people to be total wads, bags, etc. So while here, don't bother trying to understand people. Just accept that the it proves an old saying to be true. Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

They feel empowered and the more they realize they can do, the more they abuse it.

I agree. I love her in this movie! I don't understand why people find her abnoxious... And I'm usually easily annoyed by actors. :)
