Worth watching or not?

I was wondering if this show is worth watching or not? So far it has 7.1 rating... which isn't too bad I guess. Is there something special about the characters/ story lines? I've seen the trailer... seems technologically/crime related.

The pilot it's not good but the next eps are getting better (In my opinion). I think that you should give it a try and decide by yourself if it's worth watching it :)

It's a fun ride, so far. And if you're a fan of Holloway, Ory or Helgenberger, that's a plus.

And it's only here for one season, so it's not like you're locked in for years or anything. I say go for it!

reply

I find it entertaining so far. Give it a try!

I smell dark magic! It's a bit like burnt popcorn.

reply

Not!

Unless you enjoy unintentional humor, then it's DEFINITELY worth it!

I've DVR'ed the series, and out of boredom, I finally just watched episode 1 & am half-way thru episode 2 right now.

I think the show is dumb (so far) but will continue to watch at least a few more episodes to see if it gets better. I know I'm being somewhat premature here, but based on some of the things I've already witnessed in 1&1/2 episodes, things aren't going to get better.

It's the typical, ignorant 'everything is on-line' BS, yet the writers of the show didn't even try to do much research or have anyone with a clue review the script. This is readily evidenced by them referring to the main character as "former Delta Tier 1" and in episode two, they said to call _____ on the S-T-U" (secure telephone unit -- a term that's been replaced by STE years ago).

Plus, what's with that Crown Vic the star was driving in the first episode, with the numbers on the hood? Did some idiot prop guy think putting #s on the hood would make the car look more believeable as one that a covert super-agent would use??

While I don't think I have an above-average IQ, I don't think I can temporarily lower my IQ to find anything appealing in the show besides a prurient interest in the young Secret Service agent, who of course was able to graduate from college, the SS Academy, and of course become a super-duper presidential protection division agent all before being assigned to the US Cyber Command silliness while in her mid to late 20s.

I wish I was running low on DVR space so I'd just delete the remaing 7 episodes on my DVR & put myself out of my misery.

If I do ride the series out & change my mind about it, I'll apologize here for this review.

Two things are certain: this show is mediocre at best and you don't have above-average IQ.

Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

reply

Yeah, it is. The first few eps weren't great, it was just a bit too lightweight and more than a little rushed. But over the last few episodes, it's definitely started finding it's feet. And whilst it's still all a little far-fetched and silly at times, it's real strength is in Ory and the always dependable Holloway who both play engaging likeable characters.

I nearly stopped watching after the pilot, but at this stage, I'm very glad I didn't.

reply

Ahh, the shill tactic of "embracing" the established FACT that the audience at large mostly HATED the pilot with the "it gets better and ohhhhhh you're missing out if you gave up" tactic. People ain't gonna fall for it, jackass. Better give that studio check back, media whore!

Simply put, the premise drew me in, the characters kept me watching.

Honestly I hated Holloway in this (haven't seem him in anything else). He's speaking without moving his jaw. Makes it sound (and look) like his teeth are always clenched, like he's perpetually angry.

reply

Don't waste your time.

Everything is worth watching once. I always try to get through the first three (3) episodes of any TV show before I make a judgement ..... except for a couple like Star Crossed or Hostages, so bad I barely made it through the first episode.

And never never never rely on IMDB for ratings ...... never ever. If you expand the ratings you will see 24% of people gave this show a 10 ......... if God turned out to be real, even that should only score a 9.1

It will also show the top 1000 voters gave it a 6.5, a more accurate score by far.

reply

Worth watching even just to laugh at it, yep!

If the show returns for a second season that would be a miracle but I doubt it.

reply

Hey, I *liked* Hostages!

Dylan McDermott really grew on me.

reply

I found it just too fake. The idea is interesting, longevity would be next to nil without some awesome script writers .... which it's severely missing.

At the end of the first episode where she goes against the kidnappers knowing that her family would be killed, she still didn't tell the authorities. The mentality was so basic, so childlike in the way it lead a viewer, I honestly felt I would have to drop my IQ down below 19 just so it wouldn't bore me, any higher than 19 and I'd see through the plot.

reply

I would have given up on it after episode 2, but then I discovered snarky recaps.

Some of the funniest stuff I've ever read, but the humor only works if you've actually seen the show they're recapping. The job they did on Hostages was masterful.

Think I just wasted about 4 hours laughing through some of that, it's great. Thanks for the link, gunna have to bookmark that one.
