She should have got a doula

Why didn't Ivan persuade Bethan to have a doula? He doesn't know much about childbirth anyway.

The point was pretty well made throughout that Bethan was a bit of a loner, so not surprising she didn't have one.

Sounds like he knew a bit more than her. The best advice he continually gave her was "place your trust in the medicos and stay calm".🐭

Thank you RainyNightHouse! Years back I was doula for a woman in quite comparable circumstances. Have to admit it didn't quite turn out as planned. Lots of learning points of which the chief were:
1. The woman was still struggling with what had happened to her and I never got the full story. It was hard to support someone in such circumstances. She was not in touch with her labour or with the fact that "this was happening"
2. The baby made everything different and this is something that is slightly alluded to in the final moments of the film - the baby crying. Once that little person is there, the rest of the world has to shift over and make room. Even Ivan's wife could probably see that.
3. Most midwives are fabulous. Some midwives are bitches. Not many. But some.

I agree, then she wouldn't have been so annoying.
