Answer to zetes (Saint Paul, MN) and planktonrules from Bradenton, Flori

I don't know how it works in U.S.A., or even in France, but here in Spain, after being abused by your husband, you have to wait a judge' s decision to get him arrested, and that not happens after a long while. Sometimes even being clear proofs (Lea Drucker' character has many bruises along all her body) it doesn't work to get a faster administrative resolution. We have many associations that work for women rights that fight to have more tough and quick judgements about this kind of felonies. Sadly we have too many violence gender cases (sorry, I don't know if you use this expression in english or I'm literally translating, be my guest to correct me, please) each year and some could have been avoided if justice would have work in a more diligent way.
I asume that what happens in the short movie is that maybe Miriam has reported previous abuses and has taken a final decision tired of waiting. If she calls police (french gendarmes)they can help her in front of him at this precise moment but Antoine would know where she is going and pursue and stalk her some hours or days later. Of course he can deduce that she is running away with her brothers but in this way he hasn't such a truly information.
Anyway, my thesis can be refuted cause as you can read in the boards many users maintain that Antoine's white van can be seen in the last shot pursuing Miriam family. Disturbing.

Good short movie

Thanks for the insight about how different the laws can be. I believe the term you were looking for is "domestic violence" in English.

I also noticed the white van at the end and was hoping that wasn't the husband...

Guy, that's pretty much how it works in the US as well.

When she said "There isn't time...", I ran the scenario through my head. She calls the cops...they investigate. He expresses confusion to the police, who take down statements and advise the woman to seek a restraining order. She could say that her life is in danger, and they could bring her to the police station, but I don't think they'd bring the children, so she wouldn't do that, because she needs to make sure her kids are safe.
