I was going to start a new thread here where I asked if Bella Thorne was any good in this movie. She has grown into a smoking hot body, no doubt. But her acting, what I've seen of it, isn't very good. Granted, shows like "Shake it Up!" aren't vehicles for outstanding acting; they want one-dimensional characters that kids can relate to easily. They aren't looking for character development or nuanced acting skills. They want overacting, playing to their audiences. She wasn't very good in "Scream: The TV Series", either.
That doesn't mean someone coming from that kind of background can't develop into a good actor. But from the comments here, I guess that hasn't happened with Bella. I had wanted to see this movie. Now I'm not so sure, even with the comments praising her.
EDIT: I did see the movie now. Bella isn't as bad in it as some people here are saying; the problem is more with the uneven script, which is full of holes, too slow moving, and not very engrossing. The director didn't do a very good job, either. The movie was a mess, and has certainly earned the low rating it has gotten here.
I would encourage Bella to keep trying to break out of the "Disney" mold she started in, but she needs to find better material to work with. She showed enough promise here to make me keep an eye on her. Hopefully she will find better writers and directors to work with in the future.
