predictable and facile *spoilers*

Too many back stories.

The characters were all too familiar from previous projects.

The success of the villain's revenge relied upon the unpredictable factor that he'd be sent out of the wardrobe by his boss.

Since they had the door bolt inside the wardrobe, none of the characters were really at any risk from the threat of fire.

There was no suspense.

There was no bolt inside the wardrobe. why do you think they were keeping it shut with their fingers when Smelly John was trying to get inside?!

reply

It was locked with a key from the outside.

I miss the red spoiler tags.

Every double-doored wardrobe has one door bolted to the chamber from the inside. The door with the lock is ineffective if the bolt is released. Fact.

reply

The father bolts it from the inside once they all get back in for the last time.

reply

They were holding the door not secured by the bolt.

There was no bolt why would a wardrobe have a bolt inside? What purpose would it seems rev, it wasn't a walk in wardrobe they were shut in from the outside so yes they were in danger.

1. All eps in this series require some suspension of disbelief; if you like to look for plot holes, this isn't the series for you.
2. I have three wardrobes; not one has a bolt inside. (Why would they? Who needs to bolt a wardrobe from the inside?) But let's say that the one in this ep does. The wardrobe has been locked with a key from the outside; releasing an inside bolt isn't going to unlock a lock that requires a key.
3. Let's say that #2 is untrue and that they *could*, somehow, unlock the wardrobe from the inside. Pip had spread an enormous amount of lighter fluid; the fire would become enormous very quickly, and even if they could dash thru it relatively unharmed, they'd be disoriented by the smoke and subject to unconsciousness (from smoke inhalation) pretty quickly.

If you're going to poke holes in the plot, then you have to think about what lies beyond those holes. :)
