Similarities

*Mild* SPOILER...

In the film "He Got Game", Denzel's character also was great in sports (basketball), served time in prison and had a son who was interested. In "He Got Game", his son went on to play pro basketball.

In this film, it was baseball for Troy and football for son, Cory.
I think the reason Troy didn't have anything nice to say about Jackie Robinson was because Troy Maxson lost out to Robinson...

I didn't think the character of Abe was authentic. Something just seemed forced.

I loved Jim Bono and thought Stephen Henderson did a terrific job in bringing him to life. His performance made Bono a strong character...he was warm, wise and authentic.
Played with an incredible amount of realism.

Viola Davis, well what more can be said? I have never seen her any less than one hundred percent.

Denzel is one of my all time favorite actors. His portrayal of Troy stood out. Troy was not very likable, but somehow Denzel was able to show us his vulnerable side, a trait that wasn't easy to for Troy.
I absolutely love anything from Denzel!

The two brothers were adequate.
