If you'd waited a few minutes, you'd have seen one of the "murdered" people hanging onto a rock in the big lake below the cliff. Those people didn't die. So kudos to you for making a snap judgement that was completely wrong.
I noticed that too, but I think these were not the same people. We were not shown or suggested they are the same, the shot depicted a couple of random people, not the ones that reached the ship. Noone could have survived that fall.
edit : I watched the film again and you are right. We are shown the bald guy and the scarfed guy in the lake, so at least two out of three are alive. Probably the third one did not die either. Strange that I missed that when I first watched the film..

1) I also thought that "What?! They just murdered some people and these are supposed to be the good guys?!" BUT! As someone pointed out, at the end of the scene as the Arcadia is flying away, you see the people that were dropped off the ship alive and well; they merely fell into a lake (or similar body of water) below. 2) I am concluding that you are referring to the 'hot blonde woman' and the 'silly overweight guy' as a cliche (you don't actually say what the issue is here); there is a limited number of body type/hair/personality combinations, so if you see enough fiction and people in real live, you are going to see the same combination eventually!
We actually saw two out of three. It's possible the third guy who fell on his own (the skinny one) did not make it. After all there were rocks in that lake, and realistically no-one could survive a fall in the water from something like 150 meters. Apparently they forgot the usual "water turns into cement" mantra.

Even if they did kill them (not really murder in this context for me, anyway). What's wrong with weeding out the weak and retaining the useful ? (Yes, they may be of use to others on the ground - But they're also hungry mouths).
Indeed, the opening part did not make any sense and it was inconsistent with their declared intention to liberate all people from the tyranny of that elite oligarchy. It was unnecessary and contradictory to present them as cold blooded killers of innocent civilians at first and then portray them as heroes who wanted to... free these civilians. Seriously? What was that writer thinking when he penned the opening part, throwing all consistency out of the window?

yeah pretty obvious that the OP was looking to hate this movie lol.
When people complain about something thats blatantly wrong, and in the first like 10 minutes of the movie, you know they are just a hater/hipster kinda person lol
I mean, the people didnt die, and plus they were murderous pirates... Not every pirate ship is captained by Monkey d Luffy or JAck sparrow lmao. Sometimes they actually KILL! WHOA!
I'm guessing you don't actually know anything about the history of the character of Captain Harlock, who has been appearing in animated films and TV series since 1978. He and his crew were never murderous pirates. They flew under the pirate flag as a symbol of their defiance of an oppressive government. In the original series, when the young hero asks to board the Arcadia, Harlock tells him straight out that he should fight for his own beliefs and reasons, which are no one else's business. Now these same characters demand you seek to board for THEIR reason, else you be dropped hundreds of feet into waist-deep water, which you might miraculously survive, I guess, not that anyone would actually expect that outcome. Many people who have been longtime fans of the character have found little likeable about this portrayal, which has a man in a similar costume, but with essentially no other similarities.
This whole movie had a strange emo over the top feel to it. I'm angry so I'm going to kill the world!! Oh but I'm a good guy because I did 10 random non sennsical things and saved the world. Please feel sorry for me!!!
I expect the target audience is 14 year old boys lol
Who exactly "supposed" that you should sympathize with anybody? It is a fictional story - the characters are simply ciphers for moving the plot along. They are not your real-life friends.
