Utterly brilliant!

|The Matt Smith cameo made me laugh and cry at the same time, it was so wonderful, shame we couldnt have had all the future Doctors line up for Hartnell to see (although he returns to the Doctor in The Three Doctors and lives long enough to see Tom Baker in the role so had to have some inkling of the sensation he'd created).

A bit of a clunky first 15 minutes or so. But, once it got going, I thought it was a really charming piece of television... This version of Verity Lambert wasn't a million miles from Jessica Raine's character in "Call the Midwife". But, she's a very watchable actor and I thought things sagged just a little bit after she left... I hadn't been pleased to see that Sacha Dhawan was in it, as he's been quite poor in everything else I've seen him in. But, I was pleasantly surprised - the character obviously suited him and he was quite good... As for the "controversial" Matt Smith moment... I did find myself thinking: "Is this not a bit naff?" But, at the very same time, I was getting quite teary and finding it rather emotional. So, actually, I think it was a lovely little moment... Given the show's longevity, they could have spoiled things with a lot of that type of thing. But, they restrained themselves and that one little moment was quite special.
