The Army Game

I must be getting old! I can remember seeing William Hartnell in "The Army Game" during the 1950's. I was about 7 years old. When Lesley Manville says the line "I only asked" after David Bradley grumbles at his granddaughter, it absolutely broke me up. This was a catch phrase from the show and was spoken by Bernard Bresslaw (and, each week, repeated by thousands of 1950's British schoolkids). Who else noticed this?

I must admit, I didn't pick it up - but you're right!

And in The Army Game the line "I only arsked" was spoken by Bernard Bresslaw - the giant Carry On star who later played the Ice Warrior opposite Patrick Troughton.
