Let me sum up this movie...

Here is my summary of the whole movie in this little way:

"Dear William Hartnell (and anyone behind the scenes):

Thank you.

For everything.

Really.

Regards with love,
Every Doctor Who Fan Ever Existed."

reply

And every fan as well. So say we all.

reply

Thank you! I thought I had put "fans" in there as well. Thanks!

reply

Yes! Heartily agree.

Thank you, Mr Hartnell, and everyone involved. You did this. You gave us this brilliant show that we have today. You are always remembered.

I totally agree. It is a shame Hartnell's tenure is often overlooked and even dismissed as creaky. Given the limitations of the time I think the stories stand up very well. Hartnell's Doctor is quite different to those that followed and not every viewer will immediately warm to him. But it was a very interesting performance and Hartnell was a skilled and experienced actor.

It was sad how his declining health affected his memory and made him more irritable - probably more at himself than others. But he was an old school professional and expected as much from his colleagues. Don't forget his film career stalled badly when Noel Cowerd publicly berated and sacked him for unprofessionalism for turning up late on the set of 'In Which We Serve'. After that dressing down no wonder he became a hard taskmaster for himself and others.

Without Hartnell we wouldn't have the DR WHO we enjoy today - some of the proposed actors for the role would have sunk the show in its first year.

Here's my summation:

Dear Dr Who fans,

Nothing terribly interesting happened during the birth of Dr Who. Everyone did their job to the best of their ability and went home at the end of the night. Good job!

HEY LOOK KIDS MATT SMITH!! You're welcome.

Sincerely,

Steven Moffat

reply

Underage kids that canĀ“t understand the importance of human emotions and just want to see stuff blowing up would call this "nothing interesting happening" yes.

I hate tbbt. This is not a signature. I just like to write this every time I post anything.

<Sigh>

There's always one.

What does Stephen Moffat have to do with it? He is the current showrunner of Doctor Who, but to the best of my knowledge he was not involved in An Adventure in Space and Time. Or did you mean Mark Gatiss? In which case, I suggest getting your facts straight before sharing your wisdom with the world.
