Tennant tribute or Hartnell

Anyone draw the parallel between David tennant's lines before he regenerated. And hartnell at the fireplace. Was that a nod to tennant? Or was David copying a legend/ anecdote about when hartnell left?

It was a nod to Tennant. If you look, there are lots of nods to the show from all over its fifty-year history.

the writer is mark gatiss (mycroft holmes in sherlock) he wrote both of it, so, yes, he is referring to tennant...
