'Grounders'

Such a dumb name.
"What should we call the people that live on the ground?"
"Grounders?"
"BRILLIANT!"
It's like a third grader came up with it. That's the biggest problem I have with the show.

Such a dumb comment. Also third grader worthy, don't you think?

Any suggestions for a better name?

"Who we are, and who we need to be to survive are very different things."

reply

You disagreeso you equate my opinion with that of a third grader. Also very mature.

reply

Not your opinion, just the way you expressed it. I said "dumb comment", not "dumb opinion".

"Who we are, and who we need to be to survive are very different things."

They could've been called Terrafirms from terra firma meaning dry land or something along those lines. Something more original. What if the scholars of the olden days called meteors "sky rocks," clouds "air water," or dogs "barkers?" Get my drift?

reply

Funny thing is, "meteor" in (ancient?) greek means "sky phenomenon" or "air phenomenon". Not that far away from "sky rocks", don't you think?

Anyway, the Grounders aren't exactly called "Grounders" by the authors (respective the kids) because they live on the ground, but because the ancestors of the Arkers lived on the ground. Remember what Finn said in episode 2 after they returned to the group to tell them that they weren't alone? "Turns out the last Grounder who died on the Ark wasn't the last Grounder." So, on the Ark those who were born on earth and got stuck in space after the bombs (the first generation, the residents of several space stations like the ISS today) were called "Grounders" in order to distinguish them from those who were born in space (second etc. generation). The kids just used the term further on for those who survived on the ground.

"Who we are, and who we need to be to survive are very different things."

I've heard a million complaints about the show but this is a new one! When they were on the Ark they always referred to the Earth as 'The Ground'. So when they discovered there were people living there, they called them the Grounders. Seems perfectly logical to me.

reply

What should they call them, then? Something like Aertkyyzeekuwwees? Oopeermuuyhiitus? Kjruqs? Bluks?

reply

Teenagers did make it lol
