Bonnie's mother should have just never told her the truth

I get that honesty is important for many people, but I think in this case, it would have been better for Shirley to just keep the truth to herself. It wasn't going to do any good for anyone, her letting Bonnie know that she had basically chosen some guy over her own child and let her child stay bouncing around in the foster care system because she cared more about her chance to be with some loser.

She really should have just kept it to telling Bonnie she was too much of a mess to take care of her and thought she was doing the right thing by staying away.

I agree, sometimes telling the whole truth accomplishes nothing but hurt the person you're unburdening yourself to.

reply

I agree sometimes telling the truth is not the best idea.

Listen the woman was dying. She "Felt The Need" to the tell the truth about why she "gave up her child".

If you look below the surface of the episode you will realize that Bonnie's poor judgement is something she got from her birth mother!

reply

That makes sense. Thanks for the response and analysis.

reply

Wait. She really WAS dying?
I thought that was something Christie made up on the spot.

Are you telling a fib?

No Bonnie's mother was dying. Bonnie felt no need to give her an absolution but she did for her own sake.

What I like about this show is that it allows the characters to make mistakes.

But that's still an incredibly selfish decision. It wasn't helpful to anyone, it wasn't something Bonnie ever needed to hear or be told. Rather than thinkng about how it'd impact them both, Bonnie's mother made an incredibly self-centered decision, as she appears to have done all her life (and I know it's partially a plot device to show that Bonnie and Christy's decisions are just perpetuating what they've learned for generations) and hurt her daughter deeply, just so she could feel a little better. and the fact she thought she'd feel better because she told her kid, hey I wanted to get laid and keep this loser so I abandoned you, says a lot about the woman.
It was an incredibly hurtful, selfish thing to do and could have affected Bonnie's recovery and sobriety yet she did it anyway. it was a repugnant thing to do and I fully support Bonnie leaving her in the dust

reply

It could have been a lot worse. She could have killed Bonnie for a man who didn't want children like Susan Smith did to her two children when the man she was dating dumped her and implied the reason he dumped her was because he didn't want children! So she strapped her babies into their carseats and let her car roll into a lake with her innocent kids sitting strapped in their seats as they helplessly sank to their deaths! At least Bonnie's mother let her live!

Drake is repetitive. He just raps the same thing over and over as if he is in an insane asylum!LOL:D

Yes, there is rigorous honesty and ridiculous honesty. I like to pass things through the "does it need to be said, does it need to be said by me, and does it need to be said right now?" filter. A lot of stuff never gets said, and a lot of amends don't have to be made as the result of applying this tool.
