It doesn't get much worse than this . . .

Let's start with the premise: tough, gorgeous, badass WOMAN (Molly Parker played by Tricia Helfer) is promoted to Texas Ranger, a group dominated by MEN. The MEN are not too happy that a WOMAN is among their ranks. Meanwhile a tough gorgeous, badass Mexican WOMAN walks into a church and shoots and kills the a bride during a wedding. It turns out, the bride is a district attorney. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) quickly arrests the shooter. Molly Parker wants to be involved in the interrogation but the SAPD doesn't want her around because . . . well, she's a WOMAN and probably will just get in their way because they are MEN. Reluctantly, the SAPD have to allow Parker in the interrogation room. The MEN get a confession, but Molly Parker doesn't believe the confession (i.e. that the murder was premeditated). Why not? Because she's smarter than anyone. Moving on, Molly Parker tells a few MEN her theory that the tough, gorgeous, badass Mexican WOMAN didn't act alone and they dismiss her idea. In fact, she deduces (miraculously) that the Mexican woman's mother and child have been kidnapped by a Mexican cartel and they forced her to kill the ADA. In order to prove that she's right, she crosses the Mexican border, rescues the mother and child from the cartel and speeds away in a blaze of gunfire. Every bullet she fires (she also shoots a grenade launcher) hits cartel members in the chest, but they 50 of them unload clip after clip at her, but she escapes without a scratch. The mother and child are able to testify that they were capture. The tough, gorgeous, badass Mexican WOMAN gets 10 years instead of the death penalty. All of the MEN in the department are perplexed and can't figure out who rescued the mother and child. Molly's boss tells her that if he finds out she crossed the border and did this, then he'll fire her.

Awful! All of the MEN are stupid. They don't like Molly because she's a WOMAN invading their space. She's smarter than anyone. She's tougher than anyone. She can take on an entire cartel. Are you kidding me?

Oh, and one more thing, we did get the gratuitous shot of Tricia Helfer's naked back as she pulls on black panties. This happened after she literally pumped one of her male colleagues for information.

Worst show ever! It hits every stereotype, formula, we've seen before. Awful writing and awful acting.

But did you like it?

reply

No, LOL, I didn't like. That's why I titled it "It doesn't get much worse than this . . . "

I thought it was very much the same formula used before: gorgeous, heroic, tough woman, trying to fit into man's world; she's brilliant; everyone else is dumb; nobody listens to her or will help; the men want to see her fail; so she has to go "rogue" and invade Mexico and shoot up a cartel; and then the men can't figure out who rescued the old lady and child from the cartel.

It was ridiculous. I actually really want to like it, but it was terrible. Oh wait, I forgot about the storyline where it is revealed that Molly Parker was formerly abused by her husband in their marriage. Of course she's damaged, aren't they all?

Very much the same formula as Maria Bello's Prime Suspect a couple of years ago. That show was about "Jane Timoney, an iconoclastic female detective who has to make her bones in a tough New York precinct that is dominated by men."

reply

Uh, Prime Suspect was a remake of a British TV series, and Killer Women is a remake of an Argentinian series.

Wow, do a little research, huh?

I agree. Plus they threw in four scenes where she was in a state of undress - in the beginning when she's talking to her sister-in-law, when she gets out of bed and is talking to her young niece, then she hits the sheets with the DEA guy and she changes clothes in her truck. A bit much.

reply

I thought it was alright meself.

It wasn't anything groundbreaking but it did the job. You know very well 'it' can, and over the very long history of television, often has got worse than this. And your review does seem a little... eager. A shot of someone's back is 'gratuitous'? Really?

At the end of the day, an opinion's an opinion. And if that's what you thought, fair enough. But honestly, this review was all kinds of odd.

The ratings don't get much worse, that's for DAMN sure! Crapper Women FLOPPED badly! 0.9! BWHAHAHHAAHAA! The quarterback IS toast!

The biggest problem with shows like these is that they make women smart and tough and the men devoid of very lacking in both things. I don't remember if it was Univision, or Telemundo who made a version lf this, but it was so bad. I saw a promo for this with the woman with her bare leg on a chair holstering her gun. The promo poster is indicative a out what kind of show this is. Why not call it Ranger barbie and drop the charade?

reply

Show sucks. That makes 2 new premieres that were craptastic.

reply

Yeah but come on she plays a mean horn !!!

Worst show ever....
I like how she was so satisfied with a big smile after bringing the three generations together, even though one of them walked into a church and pumped another women full of lead on her wedding day...

Actually your post proves it does get much worse. Your post is much worse.
