The TV Ratings for it were solid. So why was it canceled?

Was the cost of the show too high?

That's right. No matter how good the ratings are , shows like these are typically cancelled do to budget. The shows budget was high already due to the futureistic FX of the show. To top it off, you have a top motion picture actor as the star, and ultimately will want more money. Game Of Thrones is a multi million bugedted show which is why there are only 10 episodes a season, and was threaded of cancellation because of the high expense of the FX. It survived however but mainly because how huge HBO is.

Number one rule in entertainment never use your own money.

It seems like such a waste to me, they lay out all the $$ to initially start the show (building sets, effects, etc.), and then cancel after one or 2 seasons...even shows that have a decent rating aren't immune. Like this one.

They're (these networks) cutting their own throats because it just doesn't seem worth it to invest your time & interest in a show anymore, when you know they're holding the axe right around the corner.

Being a Warner Brothers co-production, maybe NBC or CW could get their hands on it.
