That's classic. It is, in essence, simple enough, but, man, you need really mad skills and supreme confidence at the point of execution. I can understand why the reporter was brought to tears because of it.

It sure is. The only thing that had me wondering was what was the point of expending all the energy, going to all the trouble, for what turned out to be an audience of one?

The bit with the Guardian reporter recounting the story was preceded by Jay telling the story of Max Malini doing that trick at a restaurant in the 1920s and characterizing it as 'real magic', a spontaneous trick rather than a scripted stage act.

Actually, having written that Jay's decision to do create Magic in front of this reporter makes sense. She was obviously wrapped up and caught up in the illusion, she had an international audience to tell the story to.
